James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix – 27/11/1942 –18/09/1970 – was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. Jimi Hendrix pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar. Hendrix’s innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion created a new musical form. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music”.
We hope that by recording Jimi Hendrix’s tribute using our ‘Advanced Acoustic Dynamics’ method in ultra-high-resolution DSD format we will be able to produce the most natural recording of the phenomenal power trios that we’ve invited to rock. We are planning to reach all music listeners who already know and love Jimi Hendrix’s music as well as those who love rock music in general and electric guitar in particular..
Due to the prominence and the number of musicians involved in the project we will automatically reach a large group of music lovers – individual fans of each musician and countless Jimi Hendrix fans too. It is exactly what we want: to be able to not only inform them about the joys of hi-res audio but to convincingly demonstrate its advantages over MP3 and even conventional CD formats. After carefully selecting stellar musicians for a few dream rhythm sections and a posse of the most accomplished guitar players of today to perform a few numbers each in ‘live in the studio’ setting and in concert, we are certain that the album will be a major success. As for the invited participants, some musicians have already confirmed their wish to take part. With some we are yet to sort it out. We will leave mentioning them for now, but, in general, these names alone should be enough to want this album! Didn’t we say it would be a must-have item? Al Kooper and Eddie Kramer are expected to join in! As well as a few other surprise guests
The intended marriage between phenomenal music performed by superb artists and the best modern recording technology should result in a must-have album for anyone who loves rock music and modern music in general. We plan to launch it on 27th November – Jimi’s 75th Birthday Anniversary. What’s more – this album has a fair chance to turn into His present to us all through bringing the widest music-listening public attention to advantages of high-resolution music!
This long-term charitable project contains several parts:
- Recording Jimi Hendrix’s compositions performed ‘live in the studio’ – a few tracks by each guitarist with a killer rhythm section in studios like Air, R.A.K., Abbey Road and Electric Lady.
- Recording each tribute concert – a fundraising event in memory of Jimi Hendrix hosted by Music Heritage Lab in London.
- Locating and converting old analogue Jimi Hendrix master tapes to DSD256 – a superior digital archive format.
- Making a documentary about Jimi Hendrix’s tribute album recording process, the jubilee concerts, studio events and interviews with participating musicians and people who worked with Jimi Hendrix.
- Finding and commissioning a sculptor to produce a life-size statue – a monument to Jimi Hendrix to be erected in London.
Why do we crowdfund for this project
As IterDA Music we have a singular unified aim – to produce, demonstrate and promote hi-res music. This Music Heritage Lab charity project aims to connect people who love and enjoy music and appreciate Jimi Hendrix’s input in the history of modern music.
With your feasible contribution made right now we are certain that Jimi Hendrix Hi-Resolution Tribute album will be released in the nearest future and all supporting events will take place for our mutual pleasure and joy.
What do you get in return
To bring this project to life, we are relying on your active involvement and support. As our ‘Thank You’ to you, our campaign contributors, we’d like to offer a few complimentary options for your donations as each one, regardless of its size, matters a lot to us.
We are very excited to be able, at long last, to launch our series of ultra-high-res DSD256 tribute albums! Jimi Hendrix project was conceived first, but could not be started at the time. This delay led to a loss of three extraordinary guitarists who we so much wanted to see doing the Hendrix tribute. Our aim now is to try even harder and produce a set of the most natural power trio recordings of the Jimi Hendrix material. We plan to reach all music listeners who already know and love Jimi Hendrix’s music as well as those who love rock music in general and electric guitar in particular. The album, double in size, will have a combination of ‘live on stage’ and ‘live in the studio’ material. It will contain MP3 320 kbps, PCM 16/44.1, FLAC 24/96, DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 so that you can compare the quality of sound all the way to the DSD256 master!
